S is for... Stress

So my point about snowflakes yesterday. It really comes down to stress. We are, whether we are aware of it or choose to admit it, intelligent enough to read people. What we might not be, is skilled enough to deal with all the different types of people we can possibly meet. And deal with how they act.

So when it comes to censorship. Yeah I’m pro censorship. But like I said yesterday it has to be managed properly. It’s not healthy to censor everything, but it’s not healthy to just censor nothing either.

I’m going to go for the big hitter, so some of you need to fasten your seatbelts. Scenario, someone calls you a cunt....

Hold tight.

So, based on your principles and beliefs, you are either going to take offence to that or not.

But suppose someone calls you a cunt in a whimsical playful way.

“Oh you silly cunt.”

“Oh you silly cunt.” - Even putting it in italics makes it more cheeky ;)

Is that as bad as when someone calls you a CUNT like they want to rip your fucking head off?

Answer is no, no it isn’t. Because it’s whimsical. Because, in an ideal scenario you probably won’t want get your head ripped off. Unless you are a masochistic. In which case, game on!

So it’s about the stress that is put on what is said. The emphasis. And that’s a thing, I know you know it is. You know what I’m talking about.

What about if a hero of yours calls you a cunt? Are you going to take offence to it then?

I don’t really want to give any possible examples of who your hero might be - some of my hero’s are bad examples because chances are they have said the word and probably wouldn’t worry about calling me a cunt - that's why they are my heroes. Jim Jefferies. I like him. He can handle that word like a true swordsman.

But let’s say you have the dream scenario of meeting your hero. What on Earth are you going to do if they call you a cunt? Probably shit through your mouth in shock!

I’ve often had it said to me in my life, which I’ll be honest annoys the fuck out of me.

"It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it."

Which might be the case. Not about me personally, but about people. But I know I’ve worked hard and am considerate person and a team player. I think it’s fair enough for me to say that I have enough to show for that and can prove I am that. Plus, I know about this shit, so if anything I hold a bit of arrogance. And?

So maybe the problem you have with how someone says something is actually...

It’s not what you hear, it’s how you hear it.

I mean, how did you just read that sentence to yourself in your head? What tone did you use? What stress did you put on it? And who's fault is that? Mine or yours?

It's yours, you cunt!

Who doesn’t love a good quote?

“Success is a beast. And it actually puts emphasis on the wrong thing. You get away with more instead of looking within.” - Brad Pitt
